The importance of sisters can never manifold its diversity. I was gifted with Josephine, Veronica and Sunita. If my brothers were the pillars in the family, my sisters were the foundation. They were so strong yet so humble. We could walk and talk to them anytime without any hinderances. They always took up our causes to the Holy Spirit. They always prayed for all of us and specially when they knew we were making the wrong decisions. They never despised us at all, they never dug skeletons against us. Their advise was provibial everytime. Our success is not ours but the power of their spiritual negotiation to turn our mistakes to miracles.
I was Josephine's little lamb, wherever she would go I would follow, in good time or bad, I was always by her side. She taught me that in misery when you remember the Lord, the pain does not hurt as much as it seems. She made herself present for all the events in my life. Veronica passed away as an icon of simplicity, humbleness, all good virtues wrapped in one. She was a collecter of good music and always introduced me new songs, Sunita loved shopping for all of us and made sure we were never outdated in style. She was gited with a good voice who always promoted me everywhere even in the bathroom, a place where I still prefer to sing. This song is for all my sisters without whose love and fellowship I could choose between stardom and kingdom!

I grew up amongst 5 brothers, who were the basic elements of what life was to follow. Each brother was stong with abilities and an undying love for me. They had different ways of pleasing me. "Who is the favorite of us all?,"Oouch, that was never very difficult to answer especially on a one to one basis, "You are the favorite of them all", would be my custom made answer.

My eldest brother Francis always handed over his entire payment to me and asked me to give my mom whatever I desired and I would handover the entire amount. From this amount I would get fifty rupees as pocket money. Fifty bucks in those days were a pocketfull of sweet desires. Francis also taught me how to make my first dance move.

Augustine would travel most of the time and he would hand over the change he collected on tour. That was a lot of change and too heavy to carry. Although he never liked me going out for dances, he was the first to clap for all my performances.

John was abroad during my growing up days and would shoplift an entire suitcase of phoren returned clothes and cassettes for me. He also gifted me the most expensive Nikon camera, every photographers dream set was now mine.

Subash always brought me dresses of the most cutest actresses and designed it himself. He always quick to cue me with lyrics I found difficult to understand. His scrap book I used to P.T.O was all about posters and biographies about most famous rock musicians. His work in his scrapbook can be reflected in most of my blog.

Last but not the least the biggest torture in the family was Sanjay. I hated him the most. Out of the forty years I lived I must have spoken to him 5 times in my entire life. But he too loved me, I remember he once brought me all the colours of La Coste T-shirts because he did not know my favorite colour. Though they were among the best brands in the closet I wore them when he was not around. He sent me for my first music lessons to the now famous Painter Milind Mullick. Milind showed me to strum my first chord on the guiter, but I love air-strumming. He showed me the first ever event he organised along with friends to later hone my event management skills.

Most of the times if we had a problem, these guys would forget and forgive that very moment. I a spoilt brat could never could forgive them, I just could not forgive nor forget. But today as I cherish the many of my favorite things they would get me, the war within me is over, I feel it would have just been easier to say, "I AM SORRY," "FORGIVE ME," "I LOVE YOU, "instead of "WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL."

So this song is called "Shimmer And Shine" because that's what they always wanted me to be... I guess my five elements of life!!!

My father is the best man in my life. I remember each and everything he has done for me, but one thing I will never forget is when he gave up his career in the Army to look after our family. Unlike my mother who was our moral science teacher, Dad is the Ghalib of our house, his shariary is like the parables of Jesus, "He who carries the cross, shall know it's weight." His endless philosophy for our mindless minds, it never mattered to him if we were poetically incorrect as long as we got the message. This song is for my father Micheal, who taught me to rhyme the meaning of life.

I always wanted to run away from home for some reason or for no reason. I remember when I did runaway, I told him that I just need to be by myself. So I rented an apartment and guess who was the first to ring that bell. Surely my dad said that he wanted to just spend the night to see how it feels to stay away from home. Believe you me the next morning we packed bag and baggage and went back home again.

Since this song is for my dad I had to be very careful in choosing the right words. Mind you I am a failure in hindi, by the grace of a good hindi teacher I had in school, I walked through my SSLC. So if the hindi is 35% right all the credit goes to Sir John with love and 75% of my pespiration goes to my Dads inspiration.

Happy Mother’s Day to everybody, somebody, nobody and anybody. I was the ninth and the youngest child in the family and yes we were a houseful where ever we went. It was tongue twisting mentioning all the names like Josephine, Veronica, Francis, Augustine, John, Subash, Sanjay, Sunita and Surekha in an orderly manner. She home tutored us on principals, values and critical issues. Amongst all our growing years when the world was fighting on caste, creed and sex , our home was our self sponsored management institution. Obviously she was the Head, Leader, Priest, Councilor, all in one mystic mom. I remember one of the stories my mother told me as she was weaning me into the world, it began this way. Once upon a time, there were four people: Their names were Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody. Whenever there was an important job to be done, Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. When Nobody did it, Everybody got angry because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Somebody would do it, but Nobody realized that Nobody would do it. So consequently Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done in the first place. The moral of the story was everybody loses. She was not just a good story teller but an excellent moral booster. She could spur morals in a jiffy no matter how better or worse the situation was. She had the spiritual knack of turning around the situation. Back to the old story, if you want nothing do nothing, so after the moral was over her story would begin and she would start her story with the moral first, then the situation would follow. She would begin by saying, “Everybody who wants to win can stay awake, and the rest can go to sleep.” All of us look at each other to see who is going to sleep first, but nobody leaves, seems like everybody wants to win. She taught us the art of everybody winning but not winning everything. She wiped out greed, jealously, ego and all the negativity like a clean slate. Now she unfolds the real story. Once upon a time, there were four people: Their names were Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. Whenever there was an important job to be done, Everybody did it. Somebody saw Everybody doing their job so they went to help Everybody. Anybody saw Somebody helping Everybody doing their job so Anybody helped Somebody and Somebody helped Everybody. Nobody saw Anybody helping Somebody and Somebody helping Everybody. When the job was completed and well done Everybody saw Somebody and thanked him, Somebody saw Anybody and thanked him, Anybody saw Nobody and thanked Nobody. So consequently Everybody was happy, that Somebody did what Anybody could do so even when Nobody helped them. So Everybody should be happy when Somebody helps and they should also be happier when Nobody helps. We as children never spent much time sleeping or pursuing worldly pleasures, we grew up thinking we were ordained to carry forth her glories even in difficult situations. Though my Dad did not have much to say about the house hold rules, she never treated him like a center piece, instead she treated him like a jewel in her crown which she wore around her neck till she died. She celebrated the true meaning of life and lived all its moments meaningfully. I once asked her the need of having so many children, she could have been easily been much happier with just two. She answered me not with wit but with wisdom. She said God gave me nine walking sticks to help Dad in his old age, but He did not tell me which one would be the best walking stick. Then I asked her what kind of a walking stick am I? She told me the Blind man’s walking stick. Mother sweet Mother of mine. Now that I am a Mother and blessed with two children, and the two of the are enough to make a housefull. God bless my Mother, where ever she may be, but I am so sure she will be with you!
